Storm Is Coming Preps - Bread, Milk and Eggs ... Oh My!

This is a mind boggling question ... why is it that when a storm is coming, people run for the bread, milk and eggs sections of the supermarket? I mean, they are all perishables. As soon as the power goes out, the milk is going to go bad (unless it is a snow storm and you can keep the milk outside). But seriously, how are you going to cook your eggs. As far as the bread is concerned, hopefull there is something else in the kitchen to make a complete sandwich.

There is a much better and easier way to have your Bread, Milk and Eggs in the house without need of running to the market ... its your FOOD STORAGE.

In addition to the store brand Powdered Milk that I keep on hand, these are also Pantry staples, both of which can be purchased at my Thrive Life store:

Here is a simple Pantry Wheat Bread Recipe - so no more running out to Shoprite the day before the storm hits.

Pantry Wheat Bread

1 ¼ c. warm water

1 T. yeast

1 T. white vinegar

¼ c. honey or ½ c. sugar

2 ¾ c. whole wheat flour

¼ c. wheat gluten

1 t. salt

2 T. dry powdered milk

1 T. butter/oil

¼ c. potato flakes

Mix all ingredients into large bowl and mix into a smooth ball.

Let rise until double – 1 to 1 ½ hours.

Punch down and let rise again.

Let rise a third time, punch down, and then shape into loaf or rolls.

Let rise again until double and bake.

*High altitude: Decrease yeast and vinegar to ½ Tablespoon each

**Sister Landra’s recipe note – I use 2 cups wheat flour and ¾ cup of bread flour. Vinegar is a surprisingly common ingredient in baked goods, considering that it has such a sharp flavor. But as an acid, vinegar is often included in cake and cookie batters to react with baking soda and start the chemical reaction needed to produce carbon dioxide and give those batters a lift as they bake.
